Dealing with the Great American Divide

Roughly ten minutes after President Obama signed the health care bill, a group of Republican states attorneys general filed a federal lawsuit to declare provisions of that law unconstitutional. That has to be some kind of record. Why all the immediate visceral blowback?

I've been watching and listening to the right a long time, and nothing is impeding my gathering conclusion that the thing that distinguishes conservatives from people like me is that they are… Continue

Yes or No - ObamaCare?

The Universal Health Care of Pres. Obama is still persuading many YES votes in legislative bodies. Many of our people would want to have it while others do not. Stabilizing and having universal health care is good too, especially at times of medical emergences. Well, if you are going to ask for a vote, is it YES or NO?

I just about broke into a snore when the Tea Party faction, now calling themselves "Tea Party Patriots" (what a joke) called for… Continue

Certain About Green

As of today, Real Clear Politics shows that 41% of the American people are supportive of the Democrats health care bill, while 48% are opposed. This isn't enough for either side to claim the American people are on their side or against the others. When I look at this, it tells me they are undecided even after the issue has been debated for over a year. Seeing how the debate has taken… Continue

Alternative Economic Institutions Ramp Up

The idea of state-run banks has surfaced in a recent discussion thread here. One focus was on how the state bank of North Dakota shielded the state from ruination in the recent financial crisis. Now it seems that Massachusetts might follow the same course. At the same time that… Continue

an attack on education in Texas

I must apologize for the length of this --

The righteous right and ultra-conservatives are at it again -- look what has happened in Texas (see article below) -- since Texas often influences the other states' textbooks -- we all need to be concerned -- I have bolded the material of note -- I am asking that any Nation bloggers in Texas to make an effort to attend to this issue -- please think about this -- we already have the teaching of the Bible as part of the curriculum in…

The Rightwing Witch Hunt Against ACORN

posted by Katrina vanden Heuvel on 03/08/2010 @ 09:14am

After 18 months of screaming headlines and attacks vilifying the

anti-poverty group ACORN--attacks reminiscent of a New McCarthyism that

threatened the group's very existence--it's clear now that this…

Changing the "poverty level"

There is discussion in Washington, D.C. of examining the "poverty level" although there are no suggestions of adjusting the dollar amount.

There needs to be an adjustment since the poverty level has remained unchanged for too long.

Too many people are living on small incomes that cannot sustain families appropriately.

I think that we need to make a concerted effort to have our government really examine and adjust the definition and level of…

My Reasons for Joining Nation Discussion Group.

I consider this an opportunity to air my opinions and find like minded people and kindred spirits and new friendships with such people. I am disillusioned with Democrats and disgusted with Republican. I feel that there is no center left or center right. What some people call center left are organizations like Moveon.org, and center right like the Tea Partiers. The Congress is broken, particularly the Senate. The politicians are more concerned about getting reelected than serving the public.… Continue
